SUMMARY
A low mileage example of the Lotus-tuned super saloon, supplied new to the Sultan of Brunei and now requiring restoration.
DESCRIPTION
- Developed by Lotus Cars and introduced in 1990, the Vauxhall Lotus Carlton became one of the most talked about performance saloons of its era, produced in limited numbers with this example being build number #253 G and indicating just 20,703 miles from new
- Originally finished in Imperial Green, this car was later repainted silver during its time in Brunei and today presents as a restoration project, with the paintwork heavily affected by tropical climate exposure although the interior seats remain in notably good order
- Powered by a Lotus-developed 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six producing around 377bhp, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, the Carlton utilised upgraded suspension and braking components to deliver performance comparable with contemporary supercars
- The car remains a matching numbers example with VIN SCC000019M1170644 and engine number C36GETM30M50259, although some Lotus and Omega labelled components are present from its time in Asia where the model was known as the Opel Omega
- First registered in the UK on 07/08/1991 with the registration J238 KLR, the car was exported to Brunei just a week later to join the Sultan’s extensive private collection where three Lotus Carltons were delivered new, this believed to be the only one subsequently released from royal family ownership
- The odometer currently displays 20,703 miles, however, the car requires a full restoration after a period of inactivity, although it rolls freely. Lotus Archives have confirmed that the chassis VIN, engine number and build number correspond correctly with their records
- It's accompanied by its service booklet, handbooks, and NOVA documentation confirming that VAT and duties have been paid
- A rare opportunity to restore a low mileage Lotus Carlton originating from one of the world’s largest private car collections.
