SUMMARY
Lightly used recently, this rear-wheel drive 911 (964) Cabriolet is finished in a very stylish Riviera Blue and is accompanied by an impressive history file showing diligent ownership over the years.
DESCRIPTION
When the 964 was first brought to market, Porsche were keen to emphasise that although it was patently still a 911, it was in fact 85% different from the outgoing model. The design featured more integrated bumpers and a host of mechanical changes, most significantly the availability of four-wheel drive. The displacement was now up to 3,600cc producing 250bhp, power steering and ABS brakes were now fitted as standard and the torsion bar rear suspension was replaced with coil springs and shock absorbers. Careful attention to the aerodynamics reduced the drag coefficient down to 0.32 and with virtually zero lift, stability and road holding at high speeds were greatly improved. A new feature was the retractable spoiler which automatically extended at 50mph and in addition to seriously increasing downforce, also doubled the volume of cooling air fed into the engine compartment. Fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, most variants were reputed to be capable of 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds with a top speed of over 160mph.
Finished in the very pleasing combination of Riviera Blue with a Crème interior, this air-cooled, rear wheel drive Porsche 911 Carrera 2 is further enhanced by its navy blue hood and manual gearbox. Besides the standard specification of PAS, ABS, electric windows, air-conditioning/climate-control and power hood, it had factory option Sports seats that are fully electric.
Supplied new by Waldron Porsche of Maidstone on 19th May 1990, the service book contains 22 dealer stamps by Waldron, Graypaul, JAZ, Moto-Tech and Paragon. The comprehensive history file contains all MOTs back to 1994 and multiple service invoices through to 2019 when it became part of our vendor's small Porsche collection. Having covered minimal mileage recently, it's now available form long term storage with the odometer currently reading 102,560 miles and prior to our sale will be supplied with a fresh MOT. It's also supplied with its Porsche owners wallet and book pack, service books, previous MOTs and multiple invoices.
The 964 Carrera 4 with four-wheel drive is an immensely competent machine, sure footed and altogether rather safe but it's the significantly lighter C2 with a manual gearbox, as here, that provides the most driver involvement, nimble, quick and that 'proper' 911 feel. And if that level of enjoyment appeals blended with the ability to let the sun in occasionally, this stunning Riviera Blue C2 Cabriolet would make a great, cost effective entry into the world of soft top 911 ownership.
