nd, without a shaddow of doubt - Mike "The Bike" Hailwood. Mike's career on two wheels ran from 1957 to 1967. In the course of this "first" career he won 9 World Championship and won 12 Tourist Trophies on the Isle of Man. In 1968 when Honda pulled out of Grand Prix motorcycle racing, they paid Mike £50,000 NOT to ride for anyone else! He turned to car racing, and of course reached similar heights, winning the European Formula II Championship, reaching the Le Mans podium in his first full season of Sports Car racing, contesting 50 Grands Prix and reaching the podium twice. Four years after retiring from Grand Prix racing, in 1978, Mike still felt that, at 38, he had something to give and so, with his long time mate Ted Macauley, he announced a Return to the Isle of Man TT. No one gave him a hope - he was "At least 10 years too old!" Mike won. Going away, and returned in 1979 to do it again in the Senior TT.

We are honoured and delighted to offer two items from Ted's personal collection. This is THE Hailwood helmet. In every period image of Mike racing on two wheels in the 1950's and 1960's he is pictures wearing this VERY helmet. Hand painted in cream and gold, with a red stripe and over-layed chequer and Union flags, Mike has annotated the two "gouged" to the top surface as "Brands Hatch 1963!" where he had a spill and scraped his head along the ground. A fabulous opportunity to own a unique part of British, if not WORLD Motor Cycyling heritage.
