SUMMARY

Regularly successful some years ago, this striking 928 racer would benefit from some TLC and further investment to return to the front of the grid. On offer without reserve.

DESCRIPTION

Finished in iconic Guards Red, this striking Porsche 928 represents a rare and compelling opportunity to acquire a well-known and previously competitive example of Stuttgart’s transaxle GT, offered in race-prepared specification.

Dating from 1979, this particular 928 enjoyed many years as a regular and reliable road car before being comprehensively converted to race specification in 2004 by its present owner. The conversion was undertaken with participation in the HSCC 1970s Road Sports Series firmly in mind, and the car was subsequently prepared, developed and maintained by respected marque specialist Paul Anderson.

In period competition the Porsche proved to be an extremely capable and successful machine, achieving several outright race wins, multiple class awards and, notably, two class championship titles. Well known within the paddock and highly regarded for its performance and reliability, this 928 was clearly a front-running contender during its active racing career.

The car has been dry stored for some time and has not been raced since 2020, although it has completed a test day at Goodwood in the interim. As such, prospective purchasers should anticipate that a degree of recommissioning and race preparation will be required prior to a return to competitive use, or indeed conversion back for road use, depending upon the requirements and ambitions of the next custodian.

An increasingly rare sight in historic racing, the Porsche 928 offers a distinctive alternative to more conventional machinery, combining period presence, proven competitiveness and considerable character. In need of some TLC, sympathetic preparation and a level of investment, this well-sorted and previously successful example could once again provide its new owner with many rewarding and exhilarating outings, whether on the circuit or, subject to requirements, the open road.
