SUMMARY
This rare R100RS Motorsport has been superbly restored in South Africa. Running well and supplied with some South African paperwork, a NOVA and a current V5C (correctly classified as Historic).
DESCRIPTION
- The 1979 BMW R100RS is a 1,000cc (technically 980cc) air-cooled, 2-cylinder boxer-engined motorcycle, renowned for pioneering the factory-fitted, wind-tunnel-tested full fairing. It was designed for high-speed sport touring and, in 1979, featured significant updates over earlier models, including the transition from wire-spoke wheels to cast aluminium 'snowflake' wheels and the adoption of a rear disc brake, replacing the earlier drum setup
- The RS Motorsport was identical mechanically to the RS but differed by being finished in Motorsport White with M Division’s signature red and two-tone blue stripes, a red headlamp surround and a blue vinyl-trimmed seat pad
- The model's history is not clear but it's suggested that it was commissioned by an Austrian dealer who later cancelled the order. The 150 bikes were taken up by a UK distributor and sold in the UK. Subsequently 200 were sold in the US
- This bike was imported from Cape Town last year and prior to arriving, was re-built by a well-known South African BMW enthusiast. Works include frame powder coating, engine re-build, new paintwork and the original blue seat was replaced (albeit with a black one)
- Since arriving in the UK, the bike has had its 40mm carburettors cleaned, some wiring work and has been fitted with a set of period-correct Krauser panniers
- The bike is running well and comes with some South African paperwork, a NOVA and a current V5C correctly classed as Historic
- A rare opportunity to acquire a fully restored example of the very rare R100RS Motorsport
