SUMMARY
A rare opportunity to acquire a factory-correct, exquisitely restored Mk1 Escort RS2000 in a condition that faithfully reflects how it left AVO’s workshops half a century ago.
DESCRIPTION
Few cars encapsulate the golden age of Ford performance quite like the Mk1 Escort RS2000, and fewer still survive today in a condition that so faithfully reflects how they left AVO’s workshops half a century ago. Developed by Ford’s Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO) as a homologation special, the RS2000 blended everyday usability with genuine competition intent. Its lightweight shell, sharp steering and torquey 2.0-litre Pinto engine made it a hero on British roads and forest stages alike – and cemented its place as one of the most desirable fast Fords of all time.
This particular RS2000 is offered in its original and wonderfully evocative hue of Daytona Yellow fresh from a restoration that has been completed to the very highest standards. The result is a car that speaks directly of Ford’s rallying heyday, benefitting from an exacting, nut-and-bolt restoration, carried out with an unwavering commitment to originality. Wherever possible, original components have been retained and professionally refurbished, with new parts used only where absolutely necessary – and always to correct Mk1 specification. The original shell has been fully restored and refinished in factory-correct Daytona Yellow. Original glass has been retained, complemented by a new laminated windscreen and drop glass, along with new window rubbers and chrome inserts. New bumpers, irons and fixings sit alongside refurbished original lighting where possible, re-chromed door handles, correct aerial and re-zinced fasteners throughout – all contributing to a finish that is crisp, authentic and period-perfect. The underside has been stripped back, treated and finished in body colour and the suspension and steering components, steering rack, bushes and rear dampers have been comprehensively renewed or refinished as required.
The braking system has been fully rebuilt with new calipers, discs, pads, rear cylinders, shoes and copper lines, alongside new wheel bearings, front and rear. The original 2.0-litre Pinto engine has been rebuilt with new shells and mains, and fitted with the correct RS alloy sump. The cylinder head has been refreshed with new valve stem seals and spray bar, whilst a new Weber carburettor, alternator, radiator and battery ensure dependable performance. The original 4-speed gearbox has been overhauled, a new propshaft fitted, and a correct Mk1 exhaust system installed with the original manifold retained. Inside, the cabin has been restored to concours-level standard. Front and rear seats have been retrimmed in authentic RS Beatacloth by Aldridge Trimmers, accompanied by a new headlining, door cards, dash top, parcel shelf and moulded carpet set with correct alloy trims. New belts, rubbers and detailing complete an interior that feels as evocative as it is immaculate. The original 5½J RS alloy wheels have been refurbished and diamond-cut, perfectly finishing the car’s unmistakable stance.
A rare opportunity to acquire a factory-correct, exquisitely restored Mk1 Escort RS2000, presented in one of its most attrtactive colour combinations. Equally suited to concours lawns, RS gatherings or spirited road use, this is a car for the discerning Ford enthusiast who values authenticity, craftsmanship and provenance in equal measure.
