SUMMARY
Pure nostalgia - a classic 3-Door Suffix-A in Grasmere Green over Palomino Tan. Restored a few years ago and having covered just over 58,000 miles, it looks as good today as it did back in the 1970s. A rare early car very sensibly estimated.
DESCRIPTION
The original Spencer King-designed Range Rover was one of the British Motor Industry's proudest success stories and, when it went out of production at the end of 1996, it still looked as fresh and forward-thinking as it did back in 1970 when one was exhibited in the Louvre as an example of modern sculpture. Powered by the 3.5-litre Rover V8 with a 4-speed manual gearbox and selectable high/low-range four-wheel drive, the Range Rover was a go anywhere, do anything motor car with lots of style.
Offered here is a rather impressive older restoration of a UK-supplied, right-hand drive, Suffix-A Range Rover Classic 3-Door first registered on 13th January 1971 and understood to be the 272nd example off the production line. It's finished in the classic combination of Grasmere Green paintwork with a Palomino Tan interior and is believed to have been restored in the late 2000s. It was purchased by our vendor in 2012, and being rather fastidious, he spent some time sourcing small detail items to complement the restoration. It still presents very well and currently displays a sensible 58,400 miles on the odometer. Having not seen active use in recent years, some recommissioning will be required before returning to the road, however that said, it started readily on our recent visit and drove well for the short distance during our photography.
This is a delightful example of a classic Range Rover that still looks as good today arriving at the local shoot as it did back in the 1970s. A very useable classic that the whole family can enjoy with early cars as good as this rarely appearing on the market.
