SUMMARY

A properly prepared and impressively proven MG C GT historic rally car, offered from long-term ownership and with an enviable record that underlines both its preparation and reliability.

DESCRIPTION

In the care of its current custodian since 2012, this MG C has been a regular and dependable participant in Historic Regularity Rallying, finishing every event it has entered and, notably, never retiring through mechanical failure. Maintained regardless of cost and serviced with competition use firmly in mind, it is offered today exactly as you would hope to find it – fully prepared, well sorted and ready to compete immediately.

Correctly documented for historic competition, the car is supported by an MSA/RAC Competition Logbook and Historic Rally Vehicle Identity Form, confirming eligibility and offering reassurance to those wishing to continue its active life in recognised historic events.

Based on a standard two-door GT shell, the bodywork is finished in Rosso Red and incorporates a full Safety Devices roll cage. The shell has benefitted from extensive strengthening work including new three-piece sills, flared front wings and reinforced rear suspension mounting points, all undertaken with durability and longevity in mind. A carbon fibre fuel tank shield has been fitted, brake lines are routed internally for protection, and the overall presentation reflects careful, purposeful preparation rather than cosmetic excess.

Inside, the cabin is laid out exactly as expected of a serious historic rally car. Reclining competition seats are fitted with four-point Sparco harnesses, complemented by a Brantz International 2 Pro tripmeter, map light, co-driver’s footrest and intercom system, creating a practical and well-considered working environment for both crew members.

Power is provided by the 2,912cc straight-six, fitted with a Stage 2 unleaded cylinder head prepared by the highly respected Peter Burgess, along with a Piper fast road camshaft and sports ignition coil. Exhaust gases exit via a Downton tubular six-branch twin-pipe Sebring system, while a lightened and balanced flywheel and heavy-duty clutch complete the drivetrain. On the rolling road, the engine has produced a healthy 161bhp at the rear wheels, delivering strong, tractable performance ideally suited to regularity and historic rally use.

Transmission is via a 4-speed gearbox with overdrive, coupled to a 3.9:1 final drive and a Quaife limited-slip differential, providing a well-judged balance between acceleration, cruising ability and traction across varying surfaces.

Suspension and braking have been comprehensively uprated. At the front are uprated torsion bars with competition polyurethane bushes, Spax adjustable telescopic dampers, a quick steering rack, vented front discs and steel braided brake hoses. The rear features heavy-duty springs, uprated lever-arm dampers, bushes and Mintex competition brake linings, again with braided hoses. The car sits on 5.5J alloy wheels shod with 175/70 x 15 tyres, completing a proven and effective competition setup.

Additional thoughtful details include an internal fuse box, relayed wiring for auxiliary lamps, twin air horns, mudflaps, front and rear tow eyes, a period-style reversing lamp, external bonnet pins and a lightweight aluminium bonnet. As an added benefit, the car is tax-exempt.

Offered as a genuine, well-sorted and dependable historic rally car, with long-term ownership, faultless finishing record and the correct paperwork in place, this is a compelling opportunity for anyone seeking a ready-to-use historic competition car with an honest, well-earned reputation.
