SUMMARY

A very well restored, early production, matching numbers Mk1 Austin Cooper 997, currently driving well and ready to be enjoyed.

DESCRIPTION

  • Introduced in 1961, the Austin Mini Cooper 997cc was a performance-oriented collaboration between BMC and racing legend, John Cooper
  • It transformed the standard 848cc economy car into a 55bhp, 90mph rally-bred icon, featuring a unique 997cc twin-carb engine, front disc brakes, and close-ratio gearbox. Produced until 1964 before upgrading to 998cc
  • Originally LHD and finished in Old English White with a black roof and tartan red interior, this example was manufactured on 08/11/1962 and exported to Philadelphia, USA just four days later
  • Repatriated to the UK in in 2018 by a Mini enthusiast and subject to an extensive restoration, whilst retaining the original floors, sills, front/rear sub-frames and stainless steel seam covers
  • Converted to RHD and the engine and gearbox sent to specialists, Somerford Mini, for a full rebuild back to original 997-spec, with a new wiring loom and a new Newton Commercial interior in authentic Tartan Red and Gold Brocade design
  • Subsequently sold through ourselves in 2019 and purchased by our vendor who has enjoyed the car since, with occasional, sparing use as part of his extensive collection
  • Recently converted to electronic ignition with the carbs cleaned and stripped and we understand that it's running well as a result
  • Supplied with a current V5C (correctly classed as Historic), a Heritage Certificate and various other items of paperwork
  • A superb opportunity to purchase a well-sorted early Mk1 Cooper, looking and running well and now ready to be enjoyed
