SUMMARY
Benefiting from a professional ground-up body restoration a few years ago and a full engine rebuild more recently, this is a very well sorted and beautifully presented example of Jaguar's landmark late 1950s saloon.
DESCRIPTION
- The Jaguar 3.4 Saloon (latterly becoming know as the Mk1) was produced from 1955 and 1959 and heralded Jaguar's first unitary construction saloon combining the chassis and body as one
- It was an immediate success, available with either a 2.4 or 3.4-litre engine option and pitched firmly at the middle-weight executive saloon market
- This 1958 example is the larger engined 3.4-litre variant fitted with automatic transmission, disc brakes on all four wheels and is displaying just 58,213 miles on the odometer
- In 2016, it was the subject of a major professional ground-up body restoration costing c.£20,000, with new inner and outer sills, and was freshly painted in the lovely, period correct shade of Sherwood Green you see today
- Further attention over the next four years included colour-coded wire wheels, a disc brake system rebuild, complete rewire with a new wiring loom, and the glorious tan leather interior was re-connolised
- In 2020, the engine was rebuilt with new bearings and piston rings, the SU carbs were overhauled, and a new fuel pump and oil pump were fitted
- The Jaguar was purchased by our vendor in 2021and has been carefully maintained and looked after since
- Upgrades include professionally fitted inertia seat belts all round and Coombes-style steel rear arches (originals included). The wheels are shod with Blockley Tyres (including spare) that, in the vendor's words, have ‘transformed the handling’ and covered less than 1,000 miles since fitting
- The car's history file is substantial and includes its Jaguar Heritage Certificate, original handbook and a plethora of historic MOTs and Tax Discs
- This is an excellent opportunity to own a very well sorted and beautifully presented example of Jaguar's landmark late 1950s saloon
